Dataset Details - Hippoboscidae and Nycteribidae (Diptera) of Ireland
Records of Irish Hippoboscidae (flat flies or louse flies) collected from birds 2020-2025, including that of Ireland's first Ornithomya biloba, with details of the host, and National Museum of Ireland accession numbers where appropriate. A single Nyteribidae specimen (bat fly) is also included. The spreadsheet contains the additional fields Host Species (associatedTaxa)(the bird or bat species from which the flies were collected, Museum Accession Number (collectionID) (the museum accession and or Genebank accession numbers of the specimens) and Specimen number (as unique alphanumberic code for each fly which should allow it to be traced across all publications, etc.).

To examine the geographical and host distribution of Hippoboscidae in Ireland
Hippoboscids that left birds were collected by bird ringers during their usual ringing activities, and preserved in ethanol. The specimens were sent to Denise C . Wawman (Edward Grey Institute, University of Oxford) for identification.
Ireland, mainly County Cork, but with other data from County Waterford, Galway, Wexford and Kerry.
2020 - 2025
All grid references have been checked on the map. With the exception of one fly identified from photographs, all flies were identified from voucher specimens.
