Recording in the course of intense pre-construction (including pre-EIS) , during, and post construction ecological monitoring in connection with the construction of the Corrib Gas Pipeline and the Bellanaboy Bridge Gas Terminal, with during and post-construction monitoring being in accordance with statutory consents.
The mammal records provided are based on: Direct observation /confirmed sightings; camera trap records; DNA analysis of samples (Otter spraint and Pine Marten hair samples); definitive signs such as badger latrines, rooting signs, foot prints, droppings etc. The majority are as a result of dedicated faunal surveys by experienced field ecologist/zoologist; others including direct observations, footprints etc were recorded by experienced ecologists during the course of other ecological surveys in the area.
Study area in North Mayo included the wider Sruwaddacon Bay area in relation to the Corrib Gas Pipeline and the Bellanaboy Bridge Gas Terminal.
Baseline, including pre-EIS faunal surveys commenced in 2001. Since 2011 faunal monitoring in the Sruwaddacon Bay area has been conducted on a quarterly basis. Monitoring at the Terminal (Bellanaboy) has been on an annual basis. Faunal monitoring is ongoing in the post construction (operations) phase.
High level of confidence. Records collected by highly experienced field ecologist /zoologist (Dr. Chris Smal MCIEEM) . Other records - direct observations etc collected by experienced ecologists during the source of other ecological surveys - including Dr Gavin Fennessy MCIEM and Jenny Neff CEcol CEnv FCIEEM.
