MISE Project Waterford Otter Records, 2011-2015
The data set contains records of otter spraints collected during surveys carried out by the MISE Project in Co. Waterford between 2011 and 2015. A small number of other records including sightings of live animals and roadkill are also included.

2015
Otter surveys were carried out to examine otter distribution, habitat use and population information in several defined areas of Co. Waterford. Smaller-scale surveys and collection of incidental records were also carried out to gain further information on otter distribution.
Experienced members of the MISE team led trained volunteers on surveys to find and collect otter spraints in selected survey sites. Spraints collected were subjected to DNA testing to verify the identity of the species of origin.

2012-2015
All otter spraint records have been verified using DNA testing, except a small number of incidental records not DNA tested which were collected by a member of MISE staff experienced in identification of otter field signs.
