The database was compiled to identify and publicly display the distribution of Sargassum muticum in Ireland
Field observations
The island of Ireland
2001 - 2008.
Records validated by the Irish Seaweed Centre or accepted as valid if in a peer reviewed publication. Many of the latitude and longitude seconds were calculated from 0 to 100. As seconds are to be recorded up to 60 a calculation was made by the Data Centre to correct for this. The Ordnance Survey Ireland grid converter was then used to convert the adjusted latitude/longitude to Irish National Grid. These were plotted on ArcMap and checked against the place names as shown on the OSI Discovery series digitized maps. Due to the adjusting of the Lat/long provided the records are displayed at a 100 meter square resolution. The lat/long provided and the adjusted lat/long are displayed as attributes in the record information where applicable. Grid references were assigned by the Data Centre to Michael Guiry's records based on place name provided, these are entered at the 1km square resolution.
