Marine algae, marine macroalgae, seaweeds currently referred to the phyla Rhodophyta and Chlorophyta and the class Phaeophyceae

To provide scientists and the general public with a distribution map of algal species and encourage future recording.
Records were submitted by a range of volunteers and professionals, and from the herbarium of Michael Guiry, including specimens mainly collected by Michael Guiry, Christine Maggs, Hilda M. Parkes (deceased), and Máirín De Valéra (deceased) currently held at the National Botanic Garden Glasnevin (DBN).
The island of Ireland.

Most records are supported by herbarium specimens (DBN). Records may not exist for some species while others may be under-recorded.
The dataset is currently not being updated
The dataset was employed in the publication of Hardy, F.D. & Guiry, M.D (2003) A Check-list and Atlas of the Seaweeds of Britain and Ireland. London: British Phycological Society
