To determine the geographic extent and occurrence of red and grey squirrels in Ireland and for this information to feed into ways to conserve red squirrel numbers and to control the grey squirrel.
Visual surveys were used in this large-scale distribution survey

2001 - 2007
Data quality controls were applied to the primary data collated for the Irish Squirrel Survey 2007. The data provided by Coillte was validated by Coillte personnel. Data for West of Ireland Squirrel Survey was validated by Alan Poole.
