Bat Conservation Ireland

The dataset contains records of bat observations received and maintained by Bat Conservation Ireland. The data come from a number of different surveys, some of which have been undertaken by BCI and their members. More recent data was collected as part of the BATLAS 2010 project.

The reason for data capture is ultimately to improve knowledge on bat ecology and distribution to assist in bat conservation measures.

The methods of data capture vary depending on the purpose of the survey.
|
|
Island of Ireland. Data have been captured often at a fine level of resolution, but are only displayed at 1km resolution to protect location of roosts and other important sites. The location name is also withheld for a similar reason.

The data have been submitted by suitably qualified bat workers and recorders to the data set. The Lesser Horseshoe bat records contained in the database are not shown, as these are available through the Lesser Horseshoe bat database managed by NPWS.

Data can be accessed also through the Bat Conservation Ireland web site at http://www.batconservationireland.org/

|
Access to the data is restricted to the 1km resolution and site name are withheld to protect roosts from potential harmful activities.
|
|
Any use of the data should include acknowledgement of Bat Conservation Ireland as the data provider and Biodiversity Maps as the data source.
